Director of Youth Ministry
St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministry. The candidate would be under the supervision of the Pastor and in charge of directing the overall ministry to teens in 7th-12th grade, as well as the Youth Groupings model. The Youth Groupings model consists of various small groupings of youth ranging in ages 4 – 18 that gather around a particular affinity (i.e. sport, board games, baking, hiking, etc.). Adult(s) lead these groupings by providing short, focused faith formation and then participating in their affinity. The candidate would also execute administrative tasks, programming, and coordination of schedules, volunteers, spiritual and human formation, catechesis, and evangelization. The candidate would also be in charge of directing the following elements of Confirmation Formation: Retreat (currently using NET teams), Formation Nights (2 – 4 a year, apart from RE classes), tracking the corporal and spiritual works of mercy that each candidate must perform, as well as paperwork necessary. The candidate would be assisted by a full-time Assistant Director of Youth Ministry in the execution of all of the above.
We are interested in a candidate that will not simply maintain the current program. We want someone that will take it to the next level. Creativity, passion and vision are a must for this position.
Necessary Qualifications Be a fully-initiated and practicing Roman Catholic, able to participate in the full sacramental life of the Church and with a commitment to live a life that gives witness to the joy of a relationship with Jesus Christ. Faithful to the magisterial teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Hands-on understanding of catechesis and evangelization with the ability to articulate and teach the Catholic faith in a compelling manner. Able to inspire youth to go out and bring souls to Christ through the Roman Catholic Church, by developing a culture of discipleship within the parish community. MA in Theology or a willingness to receive the required training in youth ministry by enrolling in the Certificate of Youth Ministry program, or MACE MA degree program provided by the Catholic Diocese of Arlington. 8 – 10 years of experience Directing Youth Ministry. Specifically in large parishes (10K + parishioners).
Desired Knowledge & Skills Have excellent written and communication skills. Attention to detail and highly organized, with the ability to plan ahead (6 – 12 months at a time). Ability to create, track and process documents, spreadsheets, and presentations using Microsoft Office products, in addition to using social media, Flocknote, and social networking for safe communication with students and adults. Ability to work with youth in different settings and handle occasional times of high pressure leading up to and during youth events. Capable of managing and communicating with large numbers of volunteers (100+) on a weekly, monthly and seasonal basis.
Willingness to travel for certain required events: Retreats, WorkCamps, conferences, mission trips, etc. Be able to communicate and collaborate with parents, teens, volunteer leaders, foster teamwork, and address conflict as it arises, and respond positively and constructively to direction from the Pastor. Experience with Life Teen curriculum is preferred. Bilingual (Spanish and English).
