The mission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the Archdiocese is seeking a Liturgical Assistant.

The Liturgical Assistant will assist the Director of the Office of Worship in coordinating all of the liturgical ceremonies for the Archdiocese of Washington, offering advice on liturgical questions to staff of the Central Pastoral Administration, parishes and individuals, and coordinating with Basilica and Cathedral staff for major liturgical events. Other responsibilities include training and guiding support staff and acting as project coordinator for special projects for the Office of Worship

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning of Major Archdiocesan Liturgies (i.e. Right to Life Mass, Chrism Mass, Regional Confirmations, Adult Confirmations, papal visits, school Masses, installations).
  • Oversee and coordinate liturgical needs of the Auxiliary Bishops
  • Assists Director with Cardinal’s liturgies
  • Special Projects (i.e. Ordo, Liturgical Norms and Policies, Stipends for Masses)
  • Collaboration with other APC offices (especially Cardinal’s Office, Communications, Clergy, Auxiliary Bishops, IT, Finance, Canonical Services)
  • Assist in Planning and Conducting of Office of Worship Training Workshops and days of Recollection.
  • Coordination and Training of Archdiocesan Masters of Ceremonies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic who fully supports the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent command of the English language and proofreading
  • Ability to focus, multitask, and work well under pressure; manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; and work
  • Must be able to think ahead, anticipate needs, initiate next steps, and maintain discretion in confidential
  • Must work as an effective team member and successfully balance individual and team responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in both an office and liturgical setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position type/expected hours of work:

  • 30 Hours per week (this role is benefits-eligible)
  • Often requires assisting at events and liturgies outside normal business.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to teach and instruct in an engaging manner.
  • Available for evenings and weekends as needed
