Position Summary

The mission of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the archdiocese is seeking a Development Associate.

The Development Associate is responsible for working with the Directors and Officers of the team in handling a diverse and complex set of administrative tasks including assisting with direct mail solicitations, gift processing, donor research, donor record management, and donor relations. The ability to multi-task, focus on detail and professionally communicate with various internal and external constituents is essential.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Development Operations Manager in the day-to-day tasks of Appeal gift and pledge processing.
  • Assists the Director of Annual Appeal in planning and executing solicitation and stewardship campaigns through direct mail, email, social media, phone and other outreach channels.
  • Reports on Annual Appeal progress, including gifts, pledges and donor counts on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as needed.
  • Processes charitable gifts and pledges, including the following duties:
    • Preparing check and cash deposits
    • Ensuring all gifts and pledges are properly recorded into the archdiocesan database and online giving platforms.
    • Verifying gift and pledge entries
    • Ensuring that all chargebacks and adjustments have been properly recorded.
    • Answering donor questions/concerns concerning their accounts.
    • Maintaining the archdiocesan database
  • Maintaining accurate donor records including all donor demographic information, donor name changes, and parish affiliation.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of signature donor recognition and cultivation events.
  • Supports Development Office projects including Take the Next Step, Retired Priests Collection, Youth Rally and Mass for Life and #iGiveCatholic.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Practicing Catholic who supports the teachings of the Catholic Church preferred.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.

Education and Experience

  • ·Bachelor’s Degree in fundraising, nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business administration, finance, or related field.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience in a nonprofit development office.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook),
  • Database management experience
  • Basic accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English a plus

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time role with required evening and weekend hours.
