Summary

The University of Dayton seeks applications for the position of Assistant Professor specializing in Pastoral Ministry and Theology, with emphasis in intercultural competence for ministry in the United States, especially among Latino/a/x/Hispanic communities. The position begins August 16, 2022.

Minimum qualifications:

– ABD nearing completion in a Theology PhD, DMin, or equivalent program at time of application.
– Academic specialization that displays intercultural competence
– Participation in ministries with diverse Catholic communities.
– Demonstrated excellence in teaching or assisting teaching at the undergraduate or master’s level.
– Evidence of excellence in research.
– Vision for contributing to the ongoing development of our pastoral ministry program.
– Commitment to contribute to the Catholic and Marianist mission of the University of
Dayton.

Preferred qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
– Quality pastoral and academic publications, creative expressions
– An ongoing research agenda.
– Competence to teach in multiple theological areas
– Successful pastoral work with respect to Latino/a/x/Hispanic communities
– Research focus in Latino/a/x/Hispanic studies
– Direct leadership in one or more Catholic Church ministries.
– Successful teaching and mentoring experience in diverse pastoral and academic settings
– Successful teaching online or in hybrid settings
– Informed pastoral vision for the Catholic Church in the USA, with knowledge of and ability to engage those with a diverse range of ecclesiologies.
– Demonstrated successful experience working collaboratively
– Effective interpersonal communication skills.
– Effective oral communication skills

A complete application consists of:
– A cover letter that specifically addresses each of the required qualifications and as many of the preferred qualifications that apply
– CV
– 2-3 page sample syllabus for a pastoral ministry course of your choosing that provides a basic course outline, a basic semester outline of the course, and 1 sample assignment
– 150 word statement of vision for pastoral ministry in the church
– If ABD, a letter from the doctoral advisor indicating progress toward completion of the degree is required.
